JOHN M BOYD CV
John M Boyd was born in 1942 in Port Glasgow. The son of a pharmacist, John also went on to qualify with a Pharmacy BSc at Glasgow University before commencing work as a pharmacist in Port Glasgow. A self taught artist, for many years painting had been regarded simply as a hobby until the suggestion was made that his work could be worth reproducing for the retail print market.
Three Limited Edition prints were published all of which immediately became “best sellers”. More followed. Within a year or two painting had become a full time occupation. Nowadays his work can be seen in galleries throughout Scotland.
His subjects are varied, from nostalgic cityscapes of tramcars at night to wildlife and portraits, resulting in a wide variety of commissions. These include the 50th anniversary painting of the “Modern Homes Exhibition”, six paintings celebrating the 600 years of Renfrew being a Royal Borough, paintings for both sides of the “old firm” including the official painting of the Glasgow Rangers “Dream Team”, commissions for paintings of golf courses and for a variety of aviation subjects.
Living all of his life beside the River Clyde, one of his favourite subjects has been to paint nostalgic scenes from the river’s glorious past, including a large range of panoramas from the great days of the Clyde river steamers.
His work has appeared on TV on more that one occasion, including a studio visit from a Sky TV team making a documentary to be shown in the United States and Canada. John M boyd is now the owner of Inverbeg art galleries near Luss on the banks of the lovely Loch Lomond.
